‘Beauty and The Beast’ 2017: A Tale As Old As Time, Or Another Disney Flop?

If, like me, you’ve grown up fixated on those Disney classics, such as The Lion King, Aladdin and Beauty and The Beast, then you were probably beyond excited to hear of this live action adaptation. Following in the footsteps of films such as Maleficent (2014) and Cinderella (2015), and with the “rumoured” release of Mulan in the near future, what better way to celebrate a Disney Classic than with a sparkling remake?

Despite the mixed vibes surrounding Emma Watson’s involvement, and her questionable ability to detach herself from the realms of Hogwarts, this film successfully manages to set the two aside. It’s understandable how some feel that her role detaches from the films renowned ‘Disney Magic’ but, with films such as Perks Of Being A Wallflower and Noah behind her, it’s probably about time that we let that ‘Hermione’ ship sail.

No matter what your age, this film is sure to keep you fixated. With it’s gorgeous costuming and cinematic presence, watching this film is just like watching the 1991 classic in HD. With some unconvinced by it’s almost scene for scene mirroring, it’s important to remember that with many Disney re-makes, this perhaps causes less audience dis-pleasure as opposed to completely re-vamping a storyline. You can’t please everyone though , eh? With it’s a timeless soundtrack and suitable actors, there’s no doubt that this re-make will be a hit across a very varied audience. I mean, who doesn’t love a film where Sir Ian McKellen plays a talking clock?!

Worry not, if you’re all about those Disney soundtracks, this film isn’t stingy! If you’re looking for heartfelt cheesy, theatrical ballads, then you won’t be disappointed. Despite Gaston’s irritable persona, it’s hard not to get your foot-a-tapping when Luke Evans and Josh Gadd crack into song, and before you know it you’ll be cracking right into those well-known lyrics of ‘No One Fights Like Gaston!’. A timeless classic, this film is packed with all that classic cheese from the 1991 film.

Boasting an enchanting and star-studded cast, this re-work is a fresh and faithful film that’ll have you in awe. As with most revisions of films, it’s hard to say whether this 2017 version of Beauty and The Beast is or will be more popular than the original 1991 version, but it’s definitely not one to miss if you’re mad for Disney.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab your favourite frock and slippers (talking teapot and hairy beast-like friend optional) because this 2017 remake of Beauty and The Beast is sure to be the Belle of the Cinematic Ball!
